Incoming Students
We’re very happy to welcome you to Bayreuth!
Term starts October 14th 2024. At 2pm on that day, we’ll hold an official welcome event on campus (in lecture hall H27, building GW II). Here we’ll explain in detail about study plans and answer questions about the program. You’ll meet some of your teachers and have to opportunity to get to know your cohort. So don’t miss this!
In addition, there’s the president’s new student welcome at 6pm in the Audimax, also October 14th. It will be followed by an informal get together in the mensa.
We’ll also be organizing a few socials during your starting period. Make sure to stay tuned about them by signing up to our mailing list. You can also use this list to share information with your fellow students, e.g. about coursework groups, joint living, ...

Your Schedules
There is a joint lecture series for all P&CS students with speakers from all over campus as well as some invited guests: AI in Science and Society. It’s held Fridays 2-4pm in H27 (GW II).
We provide sample schedules for both Philosopher’s and Computer Scientists’s Tracks. Which track you have been assigned to has been announced to you in our email in August. Note that for some modules there’s choices to be made while for others the classes are set. In addition to the compulsory classes you might consider already taking advanced classes. There’s a list of options for both philosophy and computer science classes, too. Beyond this, feel free to cruise the cm life database for other classes relevant for your degree and we can see if they fit any modules
If you are in the Mixed or Development Tracks, please think about what courses would be most beneficial for you to take (both from the basic and advanced list) and discuss your choices with a faculty member before term starts. We’ll reach out to you about this, too.
Delayed Start & Deferral
In case you’re arriving late due to visa issues etc. please bear mind that the last date to complete your enrollment is Nov 11th. You need to be on site for that. This date is set by university administration and we’ve been told it’s strict. If, unfortunately, you cannot make it until then, you can defer your start of study to next year. To do so, you just start a new application once the portal opens again in Spring and instead of submitting all your documents again you simply upload this year’s acceptance letter. From there, things should be very quick.

Hi, I'm Paula. I'm happy to welcome you to P&CS and help you get your footing in Bayreuth. I'm a P&E Master's student and arrived only last year in Bayreuth myself. I learned to really enjoy the city and student life here. In particular, I really like the university campus and the fact that you can do everything by bike.
