Crediting
Responsibilities
The transfer of credits earned abroad should be as unbureaucratic as possible. You can avoid differences of opinion if you agree with the responsible person (Lena Kästner, philcs(at)uni-bayreuth.de) before or during your studies abroad how the courses you have taken can be mapped onto the P&E curriculum.
Study plans
In order to study abroad, P&CS students at foreign universities must generally submit an approved plan of the courses they wish to attend. Approval is granted by Lena Kästner, during whose office hours a study plan can be discussed.
Calculation
The mapping and, if necessary, rounding of grades takes place after the return from abroad. The following additional regulations apply to ECTS credits: In order to ensure uniform handling of the recognition of credits earned by P&E students abroad, options for splitting and bundling ECTS credits are created and at the same time restricted.
Foreign ECTS credits will be converted one-to-one into Bayreuth ECTS credits, regardless of the country and university in which they were earned. In this context, you have the option of:
a) Bundling and splitting: the credit points from two courses each can be added together and allocated in a modified way to up to two categories of the Bayreuth curriculum. Example: Two courses abroad, in each of which 2.5 CP were earned, are – if the content is suitable – counted as a 5 CP course in accordance with the Bayreuth curriculum.
b) Downgrading: A course in which a certain number of points has been earned can be credited with fewer points. Option b) can be combined with a).
Note: It is not possible to divide the credit points of a course completed abroad between several courses according to the Bayreuth curriculum. Consequently, the above options a) and b) cannot be used to credit more courses in Bayreuth than were completed abroad.
Relevant documents and procedures
Before studying abroad, you have discussed the “Learning Agreement” (the bundle of courses to be attended abroad and recognized in Bayreuth) with Lena Kästner and discussed the possibility of recognition (see also “Study plans” above).
Please use this form for the official recognition of your academic achievements abroad:
a) Add the university and course title to the section (e.g. Specialisation 1).
b) Submit the pre-completed form together with the transcript of records from your host university, a description of the respective course (excerpt from the annotated course catalog) and a copy of any assignments you may have written to philcs(at)uni-bayreuth.de.
Lena Kästner signs the form and forwards it to the Examinations Office. This takes place once a month, on the 20th day of each month. At the Examinations Office, the form is transferred to Campus Online. If you have completed a larger number of recognized courses abroad, the Examinations Office will adjust the number of semesters you have completed accordingly.
